Overview of Arhaekon
Game Genre
Arhaekon stands out as a roguelike turn-based RPG dungeon crawler. It immerses players in deep, strategic combat where every decision can lead to victory or defeat. Unlike real-time games, it gives players the space to think through their moves. As someone who is not a good on-the-spot thinker, I enjoyed the slow combat pace and space to strategize.
The game’s mechanics encourage experimentation with different strategies. Players find themselves constantly tweaking their approach to battles. The roguelike elements ensure that no two playthroughs are the same, offering endless replayability.
This genre blend attracts fans of both tactical RPGs and those who love the challenge of roguelike games. I had never played a rouge-like before, but after my leveled-up cleric died for good, I learned about the challenge really fast. It’s a testament to the game’s ability to cater to diverse gaming tastes.
World Setting
Arhaekon is set in a grimdark world, teeming with dangers that threaten humanity’s very existence. This setting is not just for show; it deeply influences gameplay and story alike. The atmosphere is thick with despair (you’re wandering around as a spectral spirit binding people), but it serves as a backdrop for stories of resilience and hope.
Players embark on quests to prevent humanity’s extinction, facing off against monstrous adversaries. The world of Arhaekon is one where every alley and dungeon could hide a new threat or a fleeting opportunity for salvation. So far a bit hard to escape combat, but we can talk more about that later.
The game’s dark setting is complemented by rich lore, drawing players into its depths. It creates a compelling reason to explore every corner of its universe. The two locations I’ve been to so far weren’t much different from each other, but screenshots from the Steam sales page promise a wide range of locales.
Development Team
Behind Arhaekon is an indie development team known for their passion and dedication. This small group of creators has poured their hearts into making a game that stands out in the crowded RPG market. The creators are Sorin Roman, Claudiu Schwartz, and Florian Matei. It’s just a three person team, which is damn impressive for the game we’ve gotten so far.
Their commitment is evident in the game’s attention to detail, from the intricate design of its world to the nuanced mechanics that drive its gameplay. This indie spirit adds a layer of charm that big-budget titles often lack.
The team’s close-knit nature has allowed for a level of creativity and innovation that shines through in every aspect of Arhaekon. It’s a reminder of the unique value that indie games bring to the industry.
One thing to remember with endies, is that they can take years to develop. If you’re in it for the long-haul, picking up early-access games from indie developers is a great way to help show support, and get in cheap and witness the development.
That’s it… That’s the credits. 3 People are making this game!
Plot and Purpose
Arhaekon is set in a torn world caught between warring divine factions, where an ancient civilization witnesses two gods battling over the fate of humanity. Players assume the role of an Arhaekon, a powerful being tasked with restoring balance to this chaotic realm. The story unfolds as players explore a Prospherisor’s tomb, seeking artifacts and knowledge to tip the scales in favor of the faction protecting life.
As an Arhaekon, players bind warriors to their will, fight through corruption, sacrifice refugees for the greater good, and rebuild a world that has fallen into decay. Essentially, we’re the chaotic good spirit that is set free to fight the chaotic evil spirits. The journey involves recovering lost treasures and knowledge while laying waste to the abominations that hold the world captive.
The narrative is deeply intertwined with the game’s mechanics, as players must manage their units’ corruption levels and navigate the complex dynamics between the divine factions.
The game’s story is enhanced by its dark fantasy setting, inspired by elements from Warhammer 40k and other tactical RPGs. Players are encouraged to make punishing decisions that have lasting impacts on their journey, adding depth and complexity to the narrative experience. As the game progresses, players uncover lore and make strategic choices that shape the outcome of their quest to restore balance and protect humanity.
The story weaves together elements of myth, magic, and martial prowess, challenging players not just to survive but to thrive in a world on the brink of annihilation. It’s a narrative that captures the imagination and keeps players engaged from start to finish.

Gameplay Mechanics
Turn-Based Combat
Arhaekon’s gameplay revolves around a turn-based combat system. Players must think strategically about every move due to the limited mobility on the battlefield. You have a 3×2 grid facing your enemies 3×2 grid. That’s it. That’s the range of battle, so there’s close quarters and no room to run. This mechanic emphasizes the importance of positioning and anticipating enemy actions.
Players select actions from a menu, including basic attacks, special abilities, and item usage. The effectiveness of these actions can depend on several factors, such as the character’s gameplay strategy and the enemies’ weaknesses.
At first I underestimated the importance of actions like “Defend”, being the player who always just wants to attack. But there’s stamina to manage, and you can’t attack if that’s gone. Some of the most powerful attackers, like mages, can die really easily, so the Defenders come into an important role by taking the brunt of the damage, if you task them to do so.
The game introduces unique elements like aftershock damage and poisoning, adding depth to combat encounters. These abilities allow players to execute powerful attacks that can turn the tide of battle, but they require careful planning to use effectively. It’s not always best to take out the strongest guy first, as the weaker enemies are good at healing the stronger ones, drawing the fight and the damage out further.
The refugee camp is where you find new fighting units and set your battle formation, among other things.
Loot System
Exploring Arhaekon rewards players with an array of loot, including potions, crafting recipes, and lore pages. These items are crucial for progressing through the game and strengthening characters.
Crafting recipes enable players to create powerful gear and consumables. They require gathering specific materials found throughout the game world or dropped by enemies. Crafting not only boosts a player’s fundamental game strength but also deepens immersion by encouraging exploration.
Lore pages serve a dual purpose. They enrich the game’s world-building by providing background information on Arhaekon’s history and mythology. Collecting these pages can unlock secrets and bonuses, rewarding curious players.
You have to still be careful with looting. One basket I opened caused damage and I think poison to my entire party. While there was only one and this wasn’t on the level of the awful lock-picking mechanics of Dungeon Lords where every chest is a death trap, it was still frustrating to learn that not every looting opportunity is beneficial.
Like most RPGs, lots of lute, very few carrying slots.
Augment Equipment System
Arhaekon introduces an innovative system for enhancing equipment: soul-bound augments. These augments can significantly alter a character’s abilities or provide them with new ones, allowing for personalized character gameplay builds. I believe these were the pieces that I kept breaking down for resources, because I didn’t catch what they were for in the tutorial. I’m not the best gamer out there, I’ll admit.
Players can attach augments to their gear to improve stats like basic damage or apply special effects. Some augments are designed for specific classes or playstyles, introducing strategic decisions about how to best equip characters for upcoming challenges.
The system adds another layer of strategy to the game, as players must balance the benefits of different augments against their drawbacks, such as class pierce penalties or reduced mobility.
Binding Refugees
One of Arhaekon’s more controversial mechanics involves binding refugees and sacrificing them at altars. This grim feature serves multiple purposes within the game’s narrative and mechanics.
By binding refugees, players can gain temporary boosts or unlock special abilities. However, there is a moral cost to consider, as this action aligns with darker gameplay paths.
Sacrificing refugees at altars can grant significant power-ups or alter story outcomes. It introduces a complex ethical dimension to gameplay, forcing players to weigh the benefits against potential narrative consequences.
It goes to show the terrible state of the gameplay world, and the desperate situation they are in. They are willing to sacrifice innocent people of the realm for the greater good of taking down chaotic evil forces. I also couldn’t find anything else to do with the bound refugee spirits, so not sure if there is a “nicer” option, but it’s still pretty grim what the poor people are there for.

Tactical Combat System
Strategic Decisions
In Arhaekon, every move counts. Players must think ahead, considering both the immediate threat and the long-term implications of their actions. The game’s tactical combat system requires a deep understanding of each unit’s strengths and how they can be combined to overcome adversaries.
The choice between using a Defender to attack for decent damage or use their turn to become a blocker for a weaker ally exemplifies the strategic depth. Positioning becomes crucial, as units like the mage excel in taking down high-priority targets but need protection from frontline attackers.
Moreover, timing is everything. Knowing when to unleash a powerful attack, cast a heal, or defend a weaker unit can turn the tide of battle. These decisions extend beyond mere survival, influencing the overall campaign progress and unit development. Plus, when a unit dies, they’re just gone. Like gone, gone. So protecting those that have leveled up nicely and stuck with you through many a hard fight is important.

Positioning and Mobility
Arhaekon emphasizes the importance of unit placement on the battlefield. Limited mobility means that once a unit is positioned, it must rely on its range and abilities to impact the fight. This limitation encourages players to plan several moves ahead, anticipating enemy actions and positioning their units accordingly.
While you can swap unit places during combat, it takes up a unit’s turn, which can cost you dearly. And really, with only 6 slots to work with, there is nowhere to hide (except maybe by the protection of a defender, who takes the damage for the selected unit if you choose to use their turn that way). It’s close quarters, all open, all strategy.
Unique Abilities and Progression
Arhaekon features 12 unique units spread across four classes, each with its own progression path and abilities. This diversity allows for countless strategies and team compositions, catering to various play styles.
The 4 main classes and their progression (promotion) paths:
-
Defender > Berserker > Guardian
-
Mage > Wizard > Warlock
-
Cleric > Priestess > Silent Sister
-
Rogue > Marksman > Assassin
For example, units specializing in area of effect (AoE) attacks like mages, are essential for consistent output but require protection from heavy hitters capable of taking on the damage for them. On the other hand, support units that can apply buffs, debuffs, or a good heal are pivotal in longer engagements where sustained performance can outlast brute force.
Each unit’s progression unlocks new abilities or enhances existing ones. It costs time and resources to stick with a unit and promote them over time. Making sure they take time in the medical ward can help them stay in good health if you don’t have enough potions or time to heal them. Sending them to purgatory can also help their corruption levels between rounds. I didn’t get far enough in the game to see, but it seems like if corruption is high enough, your units can turn on you in a fight. Not good.
Players must not only choose which units to upgrade but also how to specialize them within their class roles. This progression system adds layers of depth to team building and strategy, ensuring that no two playthroughs are exactly alike.

Corruption System
Health Management
The Corruption System in Arhaekon introduces a unique layer to managing your units’ health and sanity. This system intricately ties the physical well-being of your characters to their mental state, making every decision in and out of combat crucial.
Players must carefully monitor their units’ corruption levels. High corruption can lead to severe consequences, including permanent damage or death. It forces players to strategize beyond traditional health management. They must consider the environment and actions that might increase corruption.
Balancing corruption involves using specific items or skills that cleanse or protect against it. These resources are scarce, so players must decide when and on whom to use them. If you don’t have them, you have to leave your unit in purgatory and head to the next fight without them. This adds a layer of strategic depth to unit management, pushing players to plan ahead and make tough choices about resource allocation.

Sanity System
Corruption doesn’t just affect the body; it takes a toll on the mind. The Sanity System is a critical component of Arhaekon’s gameplay, directly influenced by the level of corruption each unit faces. As corruption rises, so does the risk of insanity, altering a unit’s effectiveness in battle. I suspect they may also do friendly attack, or completely switch sides too. I didn’t make it far enough to find out, and managed the corruption just fine during my playtime. This unpredictability adds tension and complexity to tactical engagements, requiring players to adapt their strategies on the fly.
To manage sanity, players can utilize rest periods and specific items designed to reduce corruption’s mental impact. However, these measures only offer temporary relief. Players must weigh the benefits of immediate sanity restoration against the potential long-term costs of increased corruption. Do you need a unit enough in the next fight to risk losing them completely or allowing them to go rogue? All things to keep in mind.
Strategic Decision-Making
The interplay between health, sanity, and corruption demands strategic decision-making from players. Balancing these elements becomes a game within a game, where every choice can have far-reaching implications for unit survival and mission success.
Players must constantly evaluate the risk and reward of engaging with corrupting influences, or taking a unit with low hit-points out to battle in the hopes of getting a healing potion before you get locked into a fight. Exploring dangerous areas or using powerful corrupted artifacts might grant short-term advantages but at a significant long-term cost to unit health and sanity.
This system encourages thoughtful party management. Players need to rotate their roster, giving units time to recover from corruption’s effects while maintaining a strong team for missions. It creates a dynamic experience where no single strategy guarantees success.
World Exploration
Themed Regions
Arhaekon’s world is a vast expanse, divided into 14 uniquely themed regions. Each area is meticulously designed, offering a distinct visual and gameplay experience. Players will find themselves navigating through lush forests, arid deserts, and chilling snowscapes, among others.
The diversity in environments is not just for show. It significantly affects gameplay. For instance, the enemies encountered in each region are not only visually distinct but come with their own set of abilities and tactics. This requires players to adapt their strategy as they move from one area to another.
Moreover, the lore behind these regions adds depth to the game. Every area has its own backstory, intertwined with the overall narrative of Arhaekon. This lore is not just filler; it enriches the gaming experience, providing context and motivation for the player’s actions.
I haven’t figured out if you can revisit the same exact level once you leave. You play each locale multiple times, but the level is always different, so if you miss some refugees to bind, or a lore script to collect, not sure you have the chance to go back and get it. Every time I visited a region again, it would show a 1/4 or something similar, showing I’ve been there once, and apparently need to play it 3 more times.

Procedural Dungeons
One of the standout features of Arhaekon is its procedural generation of dungeons. This means that no two dungeon experiences are the same. Each time a player enters a dungeon, they’re presented with a new layout, enemy placement, and challenges.
This randomness adds a layer of unpredictability and excitement to dungeon exploration. Players must stay alert and ready to adapt their strategies on the fly. It keeps the gameplay fresh, encouraging repeated playthroughs.
The procedural generation also extends to the rewards found within these dungeons. From unique weapons to rare artifacts, the treasures are as varied as the dungeons themselves. This variability ensures that players are constantly rewarded for their explorations with items that can significantly impact their progress.
It also means you aren’t sure where a wraith is waiting around the corner and pops in to engage your forces against theirs. Pretty sure you have to defeat them all the beat the dungeon, but this also means you don’t have time to use items on units or rearrange your formation, as these are things you cannot do within a battle (swapping spots in the formation during a battle uses a units turn and can cost you a good attack or heal opportunity).
Collectible Lore
As players journey through Arhaekon, they’ll encounter collectible lore items scattered throughout the world. These items do more than just tell stories; they provide tangible benefits to players who take the time to find them.
Collecting lore pieces can grant bonuses or experience points, aiding in character progression. This mechanic incentivizes exploration and rewards players who delve into the game’s mythology and history.
Furthermore, some pieces of lore are cleverly hidden or guarded by formidable enemies, presenting additional challenges. Overcoming these obstacles not only grants access to the lore but also provides a sense of accomplishment.
Roguelike Elements
Permadeath Feature
Permadeath stands as a pivotal aspect of Arhaekon’s gameplay. Players face the ultimate risk with this feature: once their character dies, they must start over. This elevates the stakes significantly. I’ve had a few cleric’s go up in smoke, eliminating my healing opportunities during a fight. And those specific units are then just GONE from the game.
The tension during exploration and combat skyrockets because of permadeath. Every decision, from engaging foes to choosing paths, carries weight. Players learn from each demise, adapting strategies for better survival chances. The loss of a few units made me rethink spending a turn to have a Defender block for more powerful ranged units.
This mechanic fosters a unique emotional connection to the journey. Triumphs feel monumental, while defeats teach resilience. There are always more refugees to recruit as fighting units, but the fear of losing progress on a unit adds depth to every action within treacherous dungeons.
Procedural Dungeons
Arhaekon’s dungeons are never the same twice. This unpredictability comes from procedural generation, ensuring fresh experiences with each playthrough. Players navigate through labyrinthine layouts filled with surprises. I didn’t know this was a feature of rogue-like RPGs, as I’d never played one before, but it sure makes for interesting play.
These ever-changing dungeons enhance replayability significantly. No two adventures are identical, pushing players to continually adapt. It challenges them to think on their feet, utilizing different tactics and strategies.
The variety also keeps the gameplay exciting and unpredictable. Whether it’s encountering new traps or facing unfamiliar enemies, boredom is rare in these procedurally generated labyrinths. They serve as the core of Arhaekon’s enduring appeal.
Diverse Loot System
Loot in Arhaekon is as varied as its dungeons. From potions to pieces of lore, each basket you loot has something similar, and yet different. You can also pick up loot after you win a battle. Once you close the loot window though, you can’t go back for the loot, it’s gone for good. This means you have to decide to use the item immediately, or choose to store it in your limited item slots. The diversity it loot items is crucial for progression and customization. My units have been saved by a looted health potion many a time.
Players can tailor their characters based on the loot they find, shaping their playstyle uniquely. Whether focusing on defense with robust armors or offense with powerful potions and buffs, choices abound. The thrill of discovering rare items adds to the game’s allure.
This system also encourages exploration beyond the main path. Venturing into hidden corners of dungeons can reward players with exceptional loot. It motivates them to delve deeper into the RPG dungeon crawler experience, seeking out every advantage they can find against formidable foes.
Additional Features
Camp Management
Arhaekon’s game design introduces a dynamic camp management system that significantly influences player progression. This system allows players to upgrade and manage various facilities within their base camp, providing a strategic layer to the gameplay.
Players start with a basic setup. They can unlock more advanced facilities as they progress. Each facility offers unique benefits, such as improved health regeneration or access to exclusive items, making careful management essential for success. You can spend resources in the Medical Ward, Refugee Camp, and Purgatory to upgrade the effectiveness of each facility.
The areas of your camp are:
-
The Refugee Camp – This is where you recruit, manage, and upgrade your fighting units as well as choose your formation for the next round.
-
The Medical Ward – You can leave characters here for a round or two to allow them to recover hit points and heal.
-
Purgatory – You send units here to help lower their corruption.
-
The Scriptorium – Any lore you find can be found here so you can revisit the lore and read the pieces together as a whole.
-
The Atlas Portal – Here is where you view the map of the larger world, and transport your Arhaekon to different locales.
The system encourages players to think strategically about which facilities to prioritize. Decisions must align with their play style and the challenges ahead. This adds depth to the game, making each playthrough feel unique.
Moreover, the camp management feature integrates seamlessly with Arhaekon’s roguelike elements. It provides a sense of permanence amidst the game’s otherwise transient nature. Players can see tangible results from their efforts, enhancing engagement and investment in the game world.
Crafting System
Another standout feature of Arhaekon is its comprehensive crafting system, anchored by the compendium of shaping. This in-game guide details recipes and materials needed for creating powerful gear and consumables.
Crafting in Arhaekon is not just an optional side activity. It’s central to surviving the game’s more challenging encounters. Players must gather resources throughout their journey, combining them in creative ways to craft items that suit their needs. I believe these are the items I kept breaking down for resources instead of using in crafting.
The compendium of shaping serves as both a tutorial and a reference tool. It gradually introduces players to the crafting mechanics, ensuring they understand how to make the most of the system without feeling overwhelmed.
This crafting system stands out for its depth and flexibility. Players can experiment with different combinations of materials to discover new recipes. This trial-and-error approach encourages exploration and experimentation, contributing to a richer gaming experience. I’ll have to check out the Scriptorium more in depth next time I play and give crafting a try.
Had to pop the game back open just for this screenshot as I totally missed the whole crafting section.
Music Experience
Arhaekon sets itself apart with its “experimental, quasi-procedurally generated music” (quote from the Steam page). This innovative approach ensures that the game’s soundtrack adapts to the player’s actions and the environment, creating a deeply immersive audio experience.
The music changes dynamically based on in-game events. For example, entering combat triggers more intense themes, while exploring peaceful areas brings forward soothing melodies. This responsiveness makes the game feel alive and reacts to player choices. Every music piece gives a sense of adventure and foreboding that fits well with the dark fantasy theme.
Furthermore, the quasi-procedural aspect means that while certain musical elements are pre-composed, their arrangement and presentation vary each time. No two playthroughs have exactly the same soundtrack, adding another layer of uniqueness to every game session. It’s so much fun seeing more and more games utilizing AI elements such as this, making games unique with every playthrough.
This musical innovation enhances emotional engagement. Players become more invested in their journey as the music mirrors their successes, failures, and discoveries. It’s a testament to Arhaekon’s commitment to creating an enveloping game world that appeals not just visually but auditorily.
Early Access and Future Plans
Arhaekon has made its mark by entering the gaming world through early access. They are currently on version 0.4. This phase allows players to experience the game while it’s still under development. The beauty of early access lies in its dual-purpose nature. It gives gamers a taste of Arhaekon’s unique features, while also providing developers with invaluable feedback.
The game’s journey through early access is not just about ironing out bugs. It’s also a time for expanding content and integrating new ideas. Players have already begun exploring the vast landscapes and intricate mechanics introduced throughout early access. However, what’s available now is just the tip of the iceberg. The developers have laid out a roadmap that promises more regions to explore, deeper lore to uncover, and enhanced gameplay mechanics. These future updates are poised to enrich the gaming experience further.
One key aspect of Arhaekon’s development strategy is its commitment to community feedback. The creators actively engage with their audience, gathering insights and suggestions on forums and social media platforms. This open line of communication ensures that the game evolves in a direction that resonates with its player base. Notably, improvements aren’t just limited to fixing glitches or fine-tuning controls. They also encompass adding layers to the storyline, introducing new characters, and even overhauling systems based on what players find most engaging.
Most recently they added a walkthrough tutorial in the beginning of the game. Being new to roguelike RPGs, this helped me immensely in finding my way around. One thing to note, adding big elements like the tutorial force the creators to add huge changes to the games coding. When I first fired up the game, there was a big warning that the new update made all previous game saves void (because the change was so big). This happens with all early access games, and it’s just the nature of the beast. Keep this in mind as the devs work hard to improve the game, and don’t always expect your previous playthrough to be available until the games official launch.
Looking ahead, the developers have hinted at several exciting updates. Among these are plans for large-scale content expansions. These expansions are expected to introduce new quests that delve deeper into the world’s mythology, challenging dungeons filled with formidable foes, and innovative gameplay elements that push the boundaries of traditional role-playing games.
Moreover, future updates may include multiplayer aspects. The intention is to foster a more connected and dynamic online community. Whether it’s through cooperative missions or competitive arenas, these multiplayer enhancements aim to make every player’s journey through Arhaekon feel unique and interconnected.
Critiques and Praise of Arhaekon
Game Issues
Arhaekon has sparked interest for its unique gameplay and challenging nature. However, players have pointed out several issues that affect the gaming experience.
Firstly, the game’s difficulty curve is steep. Newcomers to the roguelike genre might find it daunting. I know I did, and some elements still confuse me a bit (like crafting). The dungeons offer little mercy, with empowered enemies at every turn. This aspect, while appealing to veterans, can deter casual gamers.
Secondly, the corruption system, although innovative, lacks clarity in its impact on gameplay. Players struggle to understand how it affects their units and overall strategy. This confusion often leads to frustrating defeats, making the learning curve even steeper.
Lastly, unit management has its complexities. With diverse units at their disposal, players find the interface and controls somewhat cumbersome. Streamlining this aspect could enhance the strategic depth of Arhaekon without overwhelming the player.
These game issues are a summary based on what we’re seeing in the Steam reviews.
Game Praise
Despite the challenges above, Arhaekon has garnered significant praise on Steam as well, for its depth and innovation. Its strengths lie in several key areas.
The turn-based combat system is a highlight. It requires thoughtful strategy and foresight, offering a satisfying challenge to those who master it. The game rewards careful planning and adaptation, making each victory feel earned.
Moreover, the roguelike elements add immense replayability. No two runs are the same, thanks to varied loot and unpredictable dungeons. This unpredictability keeps the game fresh and engaging over time.
The thematic diversity of the 14 regions is another point of acclaim. Each area brings new environments, enemies, and challenges. This variety ensures that exploration remains exciting throughout the game.
Finally, despite its complexity, the unit & party management system allows for deep customization. Players enjoy tailoring their party to their playstyle, experimenting with different unit combinations and strategies.
Community Feedback
The Steam community’s feedback has been instrumental in shaping Arhaekon’s development. Players have been appreciating the developers’ responsiveness to criticism and suggestions.
Many have noted improvements in gameplay balance and user interface since early access began. These changes reflect the team’s commitment to refining Arhaekon based on player input, and why they are only on version 0.4. They are taking their time to make something unique and great.
The community has created guides and forums dedicated to strategy discussions. This collaborative environment helps newcomers overcome the game’s steep learning curve, fostering a supportive player base.
Dungeon Lords Review of Arhaekon
Initial Impressions
I dove into Arhaekon with eagerness. The first hour and a half was a rollercoaster. It took me some time to find my footing.
The game starts off slow. The tutorial kept popping up literally everywhere, and it was almost a whirlwind of being slapping in the face with info. This might deter some players. But patience pays off in Arhaekon. The complexity of the gameplay starts to unfold gradually.
At first, I struggled with the controls. They felt unintuitive. I kept wanting to use arrow keys to move the Arhaekon, but movement is all lead by the mouse. However, once I got the hang of it, my engagement level spiked. The game’s depth began to reveal itself.
Strategy Evolution
The real challenge kicked in after a few of my units died. Clerics. This was a turning point for me. I had to rethink my approach.
Managing attacks and defenses became crucial. I’m always all about attacking and hoping for the best in games, but that didn’t cut it. It wasn’t just about brute force anymore. Strategy took center stage.
I learned to balance aggression with caution. Buffs and debuffs. Attacks and defense. This shift in tactics made the game much more interesting. Each battle felt like a puzzle waiting to be solved, and I love a good puzzle.
The game tests your adaptability. Players must evolve their strategies constantly. This keeps the gameplay fresh and engaging.
Learning Curve
The learning curve in Arhaekon is steep but rewarding. Initially, it can feel overwhelming. But as you progress and figure out the sometimes overwhelming amount of dashboard elements, the satisfaction of mastering complex mechanics is unparalleled.
Understanding the intricacies of each unit type is key. Their strengths and weaknesses dictate your strategy on the battlefield.
Resource management becomes increasingly important as you advance. Juggling resources while fending off enemies adds another layer of challenge. I need to learn to craft as well, as I’m sure I missed out on a ton of benefit there.
The game does an excellent job of teaching through trial and error. Failure is not just possible; it’s expected. But with each defeat comes valuable lessons that propel you forward.
Our Final Recommendation
Arhaekon’s blend of tactical combat, deep corruption systems, and roguelike elements delivers a fresh and engaging experience that keeps you on your toes. Whether you’re strategizing over unit progression, exploring vast worlds, or diving into dungeons, there’s a rich tapestry of gameplay that caters to both hardcore strategists and casual adventurers alike.
It’s clear that with its early access journey and the roadmap laid out by the developers, Arhaekon is shaping up to be a game that not only challenges but also rewards players in unique and satisfying ways.
What’s the verdict? If you’re itching for a game that mixes strategy, adventure, and a pinch of unpredictability with every playthrough, then Arhaekon might just be your next big obsession.
The game is only $14.99 in early access, so it’s definitely worth picking up.
Warning: Just want to say again, this game is still in the midst of massive system overhauls, so don’t play the game expecting your saved data will be there next time. Play the game for the fun of the experience and getting your toes wet in the water. Play knowing that you can come back later, see what’s new, and know you’ve already paid for it when they likely raise the price for the full launch. Be sure to play, have fun, and give as much feedback as you can to the devs so they can really push to make this game great.
Don’t just take our word for it; grab your gear, rally your units, and see for yourself why this game is making waves. Dive in and let the adventures begin!
