Dungeon Lords Series Revives “The Orb and the Oracle” Title for Upcoming Fantasy Novel
April 2026 — The upcoming second installment in the Dungeon Lords: Fate of Evania series will carry a title familiar to longtime RPG fans: The Orb and the Oracle.
Originally associated with the unreleased sequel to the early 2000s PC RPG Dungeon Lords, the title has remained a point of curiosity within the game’s community. Now, author J.B. Coleman is bringing the name back in a new context, integrating it into an original fantasy narrative while drawing inspiration from the legacy of the original game.
Coleman, who owns the Dungeon Lords trademark and operates the franchise hub at dungeonlords.com, said the project grew out of an unexpected intersection between his professional background and creative interests.
“I bought Dungeon Lords on a second-hand domain market, since my line of work is in the field of SEO. My original idea was just to make a fantasy blog, but the more articles I wrote, the more an idea kept forming to write a story. My old love for writing came back and The Fate of Evania was born.”
The Fate of Evania series follows Faro, a fallen disciple navigating a fractured world shaped by prophecy, betrayal, and the legacy of the so-called Dungeon Lords. The first book, The Lost Disciple, introduces readers to the aftermath of a broken prophecy and the rise of a tyrant, while the second book expands the scope of the world and its underlying mythology.
According to Coleman, the decision to use The Orb and the Oracle was both a nod to the original game’s legacy and a deliberate creative choice.
“I’ve done my research on the old PC game. I’ve played through and beaten it since I’ve acquired the domain and trademark. I knew what the name of the sequel of the old PC game was going to be, and just thought, ‘how cool would it be to bring that name back to life in a way that fits my story?’”
While the new novel is not a continuation of the original game’s storyline, the reuse of the title reflects a broader effort to preserve and reinterpret elements of classic RPG history within a modern fantasy framework.
The announcement comes amid growing interest in legacy RPG properties, as fans revisit older titles through digital re-releases, community archives, and independent creative projects. By incorporating a well-known but unrealized sequel title, Coleman aims to bridge that legacy with a new generation of readers.
Dungeon Lords: The Orb and the Oracle is currently in development as the second volume in the ongoing Fate of Evania series, with a planned release later this year.
