In the South of Evania lies a vast mountain range. Most of these mountains aren’t even tall enough to see snowfall in the non-winter months. These lesser mountains are home to a privative race of people. Long ago, as the Evanian dynasty was being established, the noble family made it their mission to free these people from slavery in the neighboring land of Darmark. Once freed, the peoples couldn’t stay in Darmark, so the Evania family allowed them to inhabit the mountains that surrounded their beloved mountain keep of Mt. Fluore. They did not make them change their ways. They did not seek to make them “civilized”. They simply wanted them to be free and happy to live as they saw fit.
Mt. Fluore itself was kept for the nobility of the land, the Evania family. Founded by Justus Evania, this dynasty spanned longer than any other in known history. And the Evania family was rich beyond belief, for within their mountain stronghold lay a seemingly endless supply of subfluore crystals. This crystal held the almost magical qualities of power supply. They could provide light to small towns and kingdoms, or power to machines. With no other source of such power within Evania, the family’s hold on this resource made them the only supplier, and thus very rich.
But being the noble people that they were, the Evania family knew they had to protect this resource, and use it as a means to broker peace throughout their kingdom. For if you crossed the Evania family’s rules for peace, you were cut off from this vital resource that helped power entire industries. No one wanted to be without it.
So Mt. Fluore became the focal point of Evania, its mines heavily guarded by the royal guard.
Aside from the mines that are manned by well-paid dwarves, the upper levels of the mountain stronghold were hewn out into rooms that would be present in any other type of stronghold. This includes a great hall for feasts and gatherings of honored guests, bedchambers and leisure rooms for the royal family, a Chapel of Solana, a courtroom where the king would decide on the issues that the kingdom faced, council rooms, a grand armory, kitchens, storerooms, and a dungeon to keep the most revered criminals in the land.
Many of these rooms were cut into the side of the mountain, giving open-air aesthetic to much of the mountain stronghold.
All-in-all Mt. Fluore symbolizes a strong, fortified kingdom that knew little war during the rule of its great family. To all who looked upon it, whether king or weary traveler, it meant hope, inspiration, and granted feelings of peace while the Evanias ruled.
